These conditions have very similar presentations but different underlying causes, and require complex tests to diagnose. The objective of the study was to develop a simple blood test which would distinguish between the two forms of heart failure to aid in clinical management of patients. Heart failure patients have been enrolled and blood and urine samples were collected during clinic visits. The blood was analyzed for gene and protein levels to identify differences which could form the basis for a diagnostic blood test.
